Radar Observer Certification

Description
This course is designed to fully acquaint the recreational as well as the
professional mariner on the operations, limitations and the integrated uses
of the modern radar system. Tests will be given on all sections of study,
and those that pass all sections will receive their US Coast Guard Radar
Observer Unlimited endorsement.
The course covers how and why radar works, the effects of outside influences
on radar, and radar operation. In addition to learning how to operate the
radar, the student will learn how best to predict and avoid collisions.
The course includes several "hands on" workshops using computer-simulated
situations. The use of all radar controls will be explained including sea
clutter, rain clutter, variable range markers, range rings, and electronic
bearing lines.
