The Marlinespike Seamanship class, presented by Great Lakes Charter
Training, is designed to introduce the student to safety issues and concerns
of rigging on the water.
The course covers basic knot tying and advanced rigging required to secure
vessels at dock and at anchor, recover a man overboard and splicing in
emergency situations. Hands on exercises will be used extensively in this
class. At the end of each session, a question and answer period will review
the topics covered in that session. Great Lakes Charter Training will supply
all tools.
Objective
Upon completion the student will be able to repair severed lines, secure a
vessel safely in port or at sea and know the proper technique to heave a
line in both rescue and docking operations. The student may wish to enter
the marine industry, and the materials learned in class will ensure their
success as a valuable team player whether on a vessel or in a yard.
